Local
Councillors
Margaret Mead has lived in Croydon for 36 years, on
marrying Dudley they moved to Selsdon. She has two grown up children
and two young grandchildren. Margaret was first elected to Croydon Council
in May 1990 as a member for Heathfield Ward. In 1992 she was appointed
Vice Chairman of the Parks Committee and held that position until there
was a change of administration in 1994. For nine years she was the Conservative
opposition spokesman for Health and Social Care during which time she
worked to build up good contacts with the voluntary sector and local
associations and also dealt with ward matters including planning matters,
supporting residents in requests for road safety measures, bus petitions
and parking issues. She held that position until this May.
After the election in May she was appointed Cabinet
Member for Health and Social Care and her first two priorities were
to reverse the decision of the previous administration to close two
residential homes, Coleby Court and Stroud Green Lodge and to help the
ex Crosfield employees, who lost their jobs when Crosfield was closed,
get back into paid employment. The homes decision has been reversed
and since May she has been able to help some of the ex employees back
into paid employment and there are encouraging signs that more will
be offered jobs or work experience to help them back to employment.
Margaret is committed to improving the lives of Croydon’s most vulnerable
residents.
Helen Pollard has lived in Croydon for over 14 years
and has spent most of her career in Marketing. Married to Tim, she has
two children at primary school in Croydon and spent 4 years as a governor
of the school. Helen has been an active member of the Conservative Party
for a number of years and is well aware of the issues facing residents
of Croydon like anti-social behaviour, graffiti and planning.
Helen is committed to making Heathfield and Croydon
a better place to live, giving local residents a bigger say about what
really matters to them. Helen is a Non Executive Director of Fairfield
Halls and a governor of Gilbert Scott School.
